COMMENT, POST, SUBSCRIBE...

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Do you really think these rights still exist?

  1. All the censorship in the media has really begun to annoy me. i understand things have to be tasteful, but some stuff is just excessive.

  2. No I don't belive that we are able to excersise our first ammendent rights majority of the time. Especially if you are a youth. Adults look at us as children and not as young adults. Some adults believe that a youth should stay in a child's place because they haven't seen anything and are not fully mature to understand anything.

  3. There are always restrications regardless of your age, the place, or the time. Adults look down on kids or see them as disrespectful when they express their opinion upon a matter or if adults say something at an inappropiate time they are looked down upon. Being Free in your speech, religion, and etc. is looked down upon because there will always be a time when it can be viewed as inappropiate.

  4. THERE are not becuase in school and in the workplace one is limited to saying or doing what one feels. the teachr can give a student 100 problems for homework and nothing will be said a. Also a mayor who is gay can not express feels in public without being picked on. Society has changed this.

  6. i believe that censorship should be kept at a respectful level, just enough to get your point across to your audience without being disrespectful to others, but when it comes to expressing your opinion take a stand for your freedom as an individual, you should express your views freely. Simply keep the children away from the things they aren't ready to know of and everything will be quite alright.

  7. I do believe that our first amendments for most people are do no longer exist. Now when someone says something against the government, the next thing you know, they are gone to Guantanamo Bay. Why is that? They say it might incite something within the citizens, but if it's someone's opinion then let it be said- Freedom of speech. It is someone's opinion. Truly, the amendments do not exist.

  8. i believe the goverment has violated this amendment do to all the censorship in the media and censorship to some citizens during times such as wars etc. I believe this amendment is bend and stretch to benefit the goverment more than the citizens. Even on the news you only get part of the story to favor one side. The goverment seems to play out roles in the book 1984 by George Orwell dealing with what the goverment would like for the people to know by censoring media

  9. Of course this is going to be violated at some point. It gives people a chance at free will. It allows people to challenge authority and have some type of protection.
It is, however, up to us to keep these ammendments alive.

  10. The government has violated this right because in some stories, you don't get to hear everything that's on the speaker's mind.Everything is twisted to where you don't take in the point the initial speaker is trying to get across, you hear what the media wants you to.

  11. I think that the rights still exist, however, the meaning of them has evolved. We as citizens don't expect the same things from our government as people did when the amendment was first written.

  12. My 1st amendment is violated every time i go to Northlake mall with a few of my boys. The 1st amendments states "the right of the people peaceably to assemble". So why every time its about 5 of us the security are always in our faces telling us we need to break this up to 3 people or less. Next time ima tell them we aint going no where because i know my bill of rights!!!!!
